Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no tracking, no ads, and nothing to sell. Smartypes itself collects and stores no information about you. Your practice data stays in your own browser.
Who is responsible
Smartypes is operated by Steven Quinn Singleton, an individual in California, United States. The operator is the only person who receives anything you choose to send through the feedback page, and is responsible for handling it as described here. Contact details are under Contact.
What stays on your device
Your practice progress (your keys, speeds, sessions, home row drills, settings, and badges) is saved in your browser's local storage on the device you use. It is not sent to Smartypes or anyone else, and Smartypes cannot see it. It is used only to provide the practice you ask for, and you control it: Settings lets you export it, import it, or erase it, and clearing your browser's site data erases it too. Because nothing is stored on a server, Smartypes cannot recover it for you.
To open quickly and work without a connection, Smartypes can also keep a copy of its own files (pages, styles, fonts, scripts, and word lists) in your browser. That copy contains no personal information, and Settings lets you clear it.
What you type during practice, and questions you ask the Coach, are processed only in your browser.
What is sent: the feedback page
The feedback page is the only place where information can leave your device, and only when you choose to send it. The button opens your own email app with a message prepared from what you typed: the topic, your message, and technical details if you tick that box. Nothing is sent until you press Send in your email app. Because it goes from your email account, the operator sees your email address and any name your account carries, and replies go back to it. Messages are read only by the operator, to reply and to improve the site. They are kept in the operator's email account until they are deleted, and they are never sold, shared with third parties, or used for marketing. Your email provider handles the message in transit under its own privacy policy.
Hosting
Smartypes is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify's servers receive standard technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of each request, when your browser asks for a page. Netlify handles that information under its own privacy statement. Smartypes does not use it to identify or track you, and does not combine it with anything else.
Visitors from other countries
Smartypes is operated from California and is open to anyone. Because Smartypes itself collects no practice data, the personal information involved is limited to the technical information Netlify's servers receive when a page loads, and a message you choose to send from your own email account. Either may be handled in the United States. Netlify states in its privacy statement that it relies on the EU-U.S., UK, and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and on standard contractual clauses for its own international transfers. Where the law of your country requires a basis for handling a message you send, the basis is your choice to send it and the operator's interest in replying to you.
Wherever you are, you can ask the operator to delete a message you sent, or to tell you whether one is held, through the feedback page. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the mandatory law of the place you live.
California visitors and Do Not Track
Smartypes does not sell or share personal information, and does not track you across sites or over time, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track signal from your browser to change.
Children
Smartypes is suitable for students, and practice requires no personal information. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The feedback page asks children to have a parent or teacher send feedback for them. If you believe a child has sent personal information, please use the feedback page and it will be deleted.
Other sites
The Support page links to payment services and shows cryptocurrency addresses. Those services are run by other companies, and their own terms and privacy policies apply once you leave Smartypes.
